Got My Eye On (Feb #2)

Need more books? Maybe something here will tempt you :)

I saw a post over at Mailbox Monday that was encouraging readers to share their best finds of the week via their Books That Caught Our Eye posts. I love, love, love that idea so this is my warped version of it.

Here are the books I've added to the very top my wishlist with credit to my lovely enablers :)

Cannibal Creek by Jon Athan

Who doesn't want to read a dastardly book filled with stupid people getting chased by cannibals?!

Chuckles has tempted me into this one with her words: "This book is perfect for fans of the classic 70's/80's horror films. There is gore, cannibalism and sexual violence as you would expect from this slasher type book in the genre. "

Here's what it's about:
While traveling through West Virginia on a camping trip, the Bakers and the Riveras—two close-knit families—have the misfortune of running into a peculiar hitchhiker. After ditching the hitchhiker, the families set up camp and begin their vacation. However, they soon find themselves stalked by a group of feral, cannibalistic people lurking in the woods...

The author of Butcher Road and Camp Blaze invites you to experience another brutal slasher inspired by classic horror movies. Can you handle a visit to Cannibal Creek?

WARNING: This book contains scenes of graphic violence, including some sexualized violence. This book is not intended for those easily offended or appalled. Please enjoy at your own discretion.

Here's what Lark said: "Page-turning action and suspense, along with some pretty good characters, make this novel by Jamie McGuire a better-than-average zombie read. "

Here's what it's about:
When the world ends, can love survive?

For Scarlet, raising her two daughters alone makes fighting for tomorrow an everyday battle. Nathan has a wife, but can’t remember what it’s like to be in love; only his young daughter Zoe makes coming home worthwhile. Miranda’s biggest concern is whether her new VW Bug is big enough to carry her sister and their boyfriends on a weekend escape from college finals.

When reports of a widespread, deadly “outbreak” begin to surface, these ordinary people face extraordinary circumstances and suddenly their fates are intertwined. Recognizing they can’t outrun the danger, Scarlet, Nathan, and Miranda desperately seek shelter at the same secluded ranch, Red Hill. Emotions run high while old and new relationships are tested in the face of a terrifying enemy—an enemy who no longer remembers what it’s like to be human.

Set against the backdrop of a brilliantly realized apocalyptic world, love somehow finds a way to survive. But what happens when the one you’d die for becomes the one who could destroy you?

Red Hill grabs you from page one and doesn’t let go until its stunning conclusion. This is #1 New York Times bestselling author Jamie McGuire at her unforgettable best.

https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/35566327-gun-loveGun Love by Jennifer Clement

This book sounds crazy in all the best ways.

Shelby says, "This frigging author can write her butt off. I swear I actually tasted the Raid spray that Pearl's mother would spray down the car with nightly. She brings all these characters to life in your head and then when the bad stuff goes on..and you sorta knew bad stuff couldn't help but happen...you saw it through Pearl's voice and eyes."

Here's what it's about:
‘My mother called anyone or anything that seemed alone, or ended up in the wrong place, a stray. There were stray people, stray dogs, stray bullets, and stray butterflies.’

Fourteen-year-old Pearl France lives in the front seat of a broken down car and her mother Margot lives in the back. Together they survive on a diet of powdered milk and bug spray, love songs and stolen cigarettes.

Life on the edge of a Florida trailer park is strange enough, but when Pastor Rex’s ‘Guns for God’ programme brings Eli Redmond to town Pearl’s world is upended. Eli pays regular visits to Margot in the back seat, forcing Pearl to find a world beyond the car. Margot is given a gift by Eli, a gun of her own, just like he’s given her flowers. It sits under the driver’s seat, a dark presence…

Gun Love is a hypnotic story of family, community and violence. Told from the perspective of a sharp-eyed teenager, it exposes America’s love affair with firearms and its painful consequences.

Did you find something irresistible during your blog perusals this week? Please share! I need more books :)

  1. *raises hand quietly* I don't think I want to read a dastardly book filled with stupid people getting chased by cannibals lol. But it sounds like fun if you like slasher movies/books! the second book sounds interesting though. I like zombie books that are kind of different and not so much focused on the zombies. Will check that one out!
