Between Naps, April 2018 (1)

Between naps is a little recap of what we been up to recently on and outside of the blog.

What We've Been Up To

Inspired by this book to find every single out of print old horror novel ever released, I managed to talk my husband into spending his free time scouring thrift stores, antique stores, Saver's, Goodwill & used book stores within an hour drive to help me locate them. Sunday we visited four local antique stores and I found nothing but old junk. I swear, I have never seen so much junk in my life!

Just as I was about to give it up for good, something amazing happened at the last shop five minutes before closing time. I spied an entire shelf of books that contained these gems and all but one were only $1.00 each! I could not believe my eyes. That rejuvenated my search and this weekend we're doing a local UBS tour unless I get stuck doing yard work. Pray for rain.

Freebies

I went a little freebie crazy again. Any of these worth a read?

The Ghosts of Larkwood Asylum by [Hawthorne, Will]  The Haunting of Bell Mansion: A Haunted House Mystery- Book 0 by [Hunt, James]  His Princess (Princess Series Book 1) by [Riley, Alexa]  Of the Lemon of the North by [Leite, Chris]  They Are Watching You: A Horror Thriller Bundle (Two Short and Creepy Reads: a science fiction horror story and a gripping horror and psychological thriller with a twisted ending) by [Coleman, Christopher]  Alphabet Soup: Horror Stories for the Tormented Soul by [Wade, Tobias, David Maloney, Mr. Michael Squid, Ryan Cook, DoverHawk, Kyle Alexander, Grant Butler, Rafael Marmol, Jack T. Anderson, M Higgins, Bak Hayong, Chris Thompson, Jacob Mandeville, J. Y., Marni Sue, Kaitlynn Cooney, Kelly Childress, Mikey Knutson, Noah Rex, John Buffalo, Harrison Prince]

What's Distracting Me?

I haven't seen one negative review for this movie so I was worried I would be disappointed going in with such high expectations but it was everything I thought it would be. Tense, nerve-wracking, scary and heartbreaking. If you enjoy scary horror films you should see this one.

This one? Eh, not so much. I felt as if I were watching a video game for almost the entire running time and it bored me, truth be told. My husband loved it though.

Currently & What's Next

I've been reading this one for a week or so for a buddy read over at Horror Aficianados. It's an old-school vampire novel with a whole bunch of characters and is taking me a very long to read because I have to read it in short snippets due to lack of time. Fortunately the chapters are short so it's easy enough to put down and pick it back up.

Hopefully I'll be reading this next!

So, what have you all been up to?!

  4. Ooh how fun looking for those oldies :) Good luck scavenging this weekend too! I don't do scary well, so I probably won't be seeing A Quiet Place, but I'm glad you enjoyed it. I really liked Ready Player One, but I was an 80s gamer, so it really went to my childhood happy place :)

    Have a great week!

  7. What a great find. Like you, there's quite a few in that book I'd like to get my hands on. I will be getting Quiet Thing once it's available to stream. However, I caught my husband watching the ending on a YouTube video - WTF!

    1. I cannot believe he did that :( He ruined a big part of the emotional intensity of the movie for himself. That makes me so sad.
