January in Review:

♦ 2 Horror Novels ♦ 1 Fantasy ♦ 1 Non-Fiction ♦ 2 Fiction

♦ Hmmm, this month in reviews doesn't look as bad as I thought it might. I always fear doing a monthly wrap-up post because I'll have to face the fact that I didn't get nearly as much done as I'd planned. But this looks better than the last few months of 2016 so I'm good with that.

♦ With the exception of "The Secret Life of Souls", the rest of these were audiobooks! Ugh, I am failing on my promise to myself to take time out to actually read.

♦ Also . . . so much for my year of the DNF! I failed on this promise to myself quite spectacularly in January when I spent nearly the entire month forcing myself to finish one book (Nightmares - still pondering that review) and by not DNFing A Little Life at any point. That thing was 700 pages of gloom. I still don't understand why I put myself through that.

♦ I see more crockpot cooking in my future, more working out in the morning and a helluva lot more of putting myself to bed early to get some pages read at night!

  1. Hahahah! A Little Life is definitely 700+ of gloom. It's tortuous, but I ended up loving it so much. It was a labour of love, tbh.

    Have a great month!

  2. Oh dear, 700 pages??? No way could I put myself through that bad boy! Erk! There must be punishment for your failing to DNF like a good Bark should've...*nods wisely* Yes, I shall send you twenty book recommendations to fill your tbr! *giggles*

    1. I haven't a clue what had overcome me but I had to see that thing through. Ugh, no more recommendations, please! lol, my Ipad died the other night from being overstuffed and had to be reformatting back to factory settings. Now I am using it exclusively for email, internet and my Kindle books. Now that all of the apps are gone, there's tons of room on that thing now so I will easily fall prey to adding more . . .

  3. That's a pretty good month and hey, there is NO WAY I could read 700 pages of gloom and doom. I've not started Nightmares yet and it may be one I cross off the list permanently once I see your review. Man, Chuckles' punishment is downright harsh, but I'm sure I could help her add to the TBR as well :)

    1. lol, you two are bad for my Ipad and for my wallet :) I should have Nightmares completed withing a day or who. Remind me never to review an anthology that has a million stories in it.

    2. I actually prefer anthologies in physical form for some reason. I never have a lot of luck reading them on my Kindle.

  4. Glad it was a good month but yeah, 700 pages... that's hard slog if it's not good. The secret Life of Souls looks way interesting, that cover kinda gets my attention!

    1. It was a beautiful book filled with the ugliness of selfish humans and I adored it. I hope you find some time to read it.

  5. Oh my, don't torture yourself like that no more, go for the DNF. I already had one this year! :) On another note, you did really good last month. :)

  6. I think I will take a pass at 700 pages of gloom. Blah. I will dnf but not nearly as often as I probably should. I will spend as much time if not more on a book before I will even decide to put it aside. I love the crock pot idea. I need to pull mine out soon.

    1. I was about to boycott cooking altogether and told my family so. I work and I still have to do all of the cleaning and cooking. No one was willing to step up so I told them they're getting salads, sandwiches and crockpot dishes then so I can get some of my reading time back.

  7. Ooh, I'm very curious about Five Stories High. I'm still working on my review for Devil's Rock, too. It's going to be one of my catch up reviews from last year. I can't wait to hear about Coco Butternut.

    1. Five Stories started out on a sour note for me and I nearly DNF'd after the 2nd story but the third story reeled me back in. That's the curse of collections.
