Books From The Backlog: The Blue Viking by Sandra Hill
Carole @ Carole's Random Life In Books has created a fun new feature called Books from the Backlog to spotlight neglected and unloved books that have been sitting on your bookshelf for too long.

My Neglected Book of the Week is The Blue Viking by Sandra Hill. I figured since he'd been hiding away in the very back of a bookshelf stacked three stacks deep that he deserved to be let out to get a little sun and fresh air. I bought this in 2001 brand new when it was first released and never read it. He and his abs have been waiting so very long that I think I may break down and give him a read soon(ish). When I finish with my review commitments, that is. And, yep, I accidentally hit up Netgalley again.
The Goodreads Blurbage:
"What in the name of Thor could be making this Viking so blue?
- Eating haggis?
- Listening to those insufferable bagpipes?
- Traveling through Scotland with the world's worst poet?
- Searching for the infuriatingly inept witch who's cursed his face... and even more important parts?
For Rurik the Viking, life has not been worth living since he left Maire of the Moors. Oh, it's not that he misses her fiery red tresses or kissome lips. Nay, it's the embarrassing blue zigzag she put on his face after their one wild night of loving. For a fierce warrior who prides himself on his immense height, his expertise in bedsport, and his well-honed muscles, this blue streak is the last straw. In the end, he'll bring the witchling to heel, or die trying. Mayhap he'll even beg her to wed ... so long as she can promise he'll no longer be... the Blue Viking."

Why did I add this book to my tbr pile? I bought The Blue Viking at the tail end of my voracious romance reading days. I think I was starting to burn out, stuck him on a shelf and there he waited with great patience until today :)
My reading group friends LOVE this author and I have actually read one, according to Goodreads, and I liked it enough to give it three stars. The cover is rather lackluster compared to my Blue Viking, however, don't you think?!

Have you read it? Should I really do it?
Covers with half naked men have me running screaming for the hills! *grins* Nice flowers though!
ReplyDeleteHee, hee. Yes, this one is not for you! Those are the only peonies I've managed not to kill.
DeleteI have a whole shelf of UF series that I bought when Borders closed then hit burnout on the genre. I keep waffling between getting rid of them or binge reading.
ReplyDeleteRealistically - they will sit there another 5 years lol

You sound just like me. I can't part with unread books and when I do, I almost always regret it.
DeleteThat cover - absolutely cringe-worthy :)
ReplyDeleteI know right? Way too beefy for my tastes. He looks angry too but worst of all HE HAS ?A DEAD ANIMAL PELT draped across his beefy back.
DeleteI have read a couple of her books and I think I have rated them all 3 stars. This one might need a bit of extra credit for that cover though.
ReplyDeleteHaha! I may skim it or who knows, it make suck me in and you'll never hear from me again :)
DeleteNot my genre anymore but I like the flowers and the cover.
ReplyDeleteyeah, I burned myself out on the genre years ago. I'm going to skim it and see what happens.
DeleteOh yes, I remember her long string of Viking Romances. I always meant to try one. He does look well out in the sun. :)
ReplyDeletehaha, my friends adore her books but I think my sense of humor is not quite the same as theirs.
DeleteThe blurb is hilarious. If the book is half as funny it might be worth reading. :)
ReplyDeleteI'll let you know :)
DeleteI hope you love this one! I haven't had too much luck with Sandra Hill, but I have only tried two books in another of her series, so it's probably not fair to pass judgement on her books yet. Maybe someday I will try again.
ReplyDeleteThanks, I hope I love it too but I'd be lying if I didn't say I wasn't a little worried :)
DeleteLol, the cover alone would put me off reading this book I'm afraid, though I did quite like a quick gawp at those abs!!
