Reads of Many Moons Past (1)

I thought it might be fun to start looking back in time and seeing what I was reading this time last year and all of the previous years since I started cataloging my reads! I sometimes see people doing this on social media and it's a fun reminder that older reads need loving too. If you're a nerd like me and want to do this please leave me a link to your post. I'd love to see how your reading evolves through the years!

"This is a fast paced story with an engaging writing style that grabbed me from the beginning. Rhonda is snarky and angry and heartbroken so her choices, crazy as they may be, are 100% understandable. The story is filled with gore and dark humor and a disgusting wet dream that made my black heart really freaking happy and it won’t rip out your soul like that damned Walking Dead show! I recommend it to anyone looking for a fun horror novel."

"I’d give the story a 2 but the narration a 5 which averages out to a three (hey, my review, my math!)."

"It’s a short book and well worth reading if you like your horror gory and your humor black. Just stick with it, I promise it gets good once the blood finally starts flowing."

"I basically despised all of the characters but I enjoyed the audiobook so very much. There are three narrators who are terrific at evoking the perfect mood for each of the women embroiled in this toxic stew. I was never left shaking my head in confusion when the point of view switched. If you are a particular sort of person who likes this sort of thing, the audio is a great way to go."

"If you’re already sick of the Christmas shopping insanity and looking for a little holiday nastiness to better get you in the spirit, you’ll probably want to read this. I have no regrets and will probably do it again next November."

"The best and worst thing about Charlie’s story is the fact that her inner torment, her longing for a real family and her grief were so well painted. Her pain was so intense that at times it felt suffocating."

"There is plenty of romance throughout the story (and even a charming secondary romance or two) but once Ash and Wyatt work out the kinks in their relationship, the second half focuses more on figuring out the cause of the genuinely chilling events going on around them. I thought it was fantastically entertaining and perfectly done and can’t wait to read more by Abigail Roux. "

" Though the book was a little long for my liking, I truly enjoyed the quieter moments where the author carefully spins the atmosphere into a living, breathing thing with his words. When Preston finds himself in an off the grid home that time seems to have forgot I felt transported there myself. Great stuff there."

"This story in the "Contact" series of sexy cat men is much more action driven than the previous two and the two characters are already in a loving relationship when things begin. I really enjoyed the two leads but, again, desperately wish these books were longer. They always seem too rushed for me to truly fall into."

It looks like I was reading mostly good things this first week of November. Mostly horror and romance with a blockbuster thrown in there.  I'm cutting this off at 2010 because my fingers are getting tired and this post is going to get unwieldy. You can click on any cover to find out more about each book at Goodreads, if they catch your eye. Please share your thoughts if you've read any of them!

Did you like this trip down memory lane? If so, I might do it again. If not, I might do it anyway because it made me happy, lol.

  1. I keep meaning to resurrect my retro reads on a more regular basis! I always enjoy this kind of post! I DNFed The Girl On The Train as I hated all the characters.

    1. I love seeing the older books in the spotlight!

I don't blame you for the DNF on that one. Those were some truly terrible people, lol.

    1. I'd love to see it! I get too caught up in the hype of new books but there are so many backlist books too that need a little push.

    1. Thanks, Mary. It was fun to write this up. I've drafted another and it's clear that I follow waves in my reading life. There's a horror wave and a romance wave and some years are heavier with one or the other.
