Horror Film Friday: Nothing But 3's To See Here

I have sadly neglected this little feature, as I have done with many things in my life, but I have NOT stopped watching horror films. If anything, I have been watching more than ever now that I've discovered party watches via Netflix and Prime. Here are some mini reviews of my recent watches. If you're on Twitter or Letterboxd you might've seen these already (sorry about that!).

The Hunt (2020)

THE ULTIMATE HUMAN HUNTING EXPERIENCE

Twelve strangers wake up in a clearing. They don’t know where they are—or how they got there. In the shadow of a dark internet conspiracy theory, ruthless elitists gather at a remote location to hunt humans for sport. But their master plan is about to be derailed when one of the hunted turns the tables on her pursuers. Rental available on Amazon.

My two cents for free!

I liked it okay but the satire bits fell flat for me. The action and gore and Betty Gilpin - no complaints.

⭐⭐⭐

American Murder The Family Next Door (2020)

Using raw, firsthand footage, this documentary examines the disappearance of Shanann Watts and her children, and the terrible events that followed. Streaming on Netflix.

My two cents for free!

Such a horrifically selfish and sad crime Why did I watch this? 😭. It’s well done but a truly painful crime to witness. I think airing all of Shannan’s extremely personal texts went too far and made me feel icky for having o hear her most intimidate exchanges, worries and insecurities. Let the woman Rest In Peace 😩

⭐⭐⭐

Always Shine (2016)

On a trip to Big Sur, two friends, both actresses, try to reconnect with one another. Once alone, the women’s suppressed jealousies and deep-seated resentments begin to rise, causing them to lose their grasp on not only the true nature of their relationship but also their identities.

My two cents for free!

Hmmm I am fatigued by all of these movies I keep watching with vague endings and this is another of them. This was a decent film about a friendship in its death throes and it’s not the movie's fault I’ve been on an unfortunate roll of these films that leave too much shit open to interpretation when all I want is an open and closed case 😩 This is a case of it’s me not you so ignore me which is something you should be doing anyway. Streaming on Amazon Prime.

  1. Agh, I had high hopes for The Hunt but I hate satire not being funny in my horror films.
