Amalie Howard whisks you away with a historical romance full of drama, true love, and the perfect happily ever after.

Sometimes, finding love means flouting the rules...

Born to a life of privilege, Lady Ravenna Huntley rues the day that she must marry. She's refused dozens of suitors and cried off multiple betrothals, but running away—even if brash and foolhardy—is the only option left to secure her independence.

Lord Courtland Chase, grandson of the Duke of Ashton, was driven from England at the behest of his cruel stepmother. Scorned and shunned, he swore never to return to the land of his birth. But when a twist of bad luck throws a rebellious heiress into his arms, at the very moment he finds out he's the new Duke, marriage is the only alternative to massive scandal.

Both are quick to deny it, but a wedding might be the only way out for both of them. And the attraction that burns between them makes Ravenna and Courtland wonder if it'll truly only be a marriage of convenience after all...

My 2 Cents for Free!

This book was kicking around my tbr pile for a few years and might've stayed there a few more if I hadn't decided to create a tbr jar and actually get some of these books read!

It's actually a tbr vase but close enough šŸ¤·

This hero was SO frustrating. I haven't the words to describe how much his behavior irritated me. He's hot, he's cold, he's overprotective, he's pushing her away. He feels unworthy, he can't resist her. He loves her rambunctiousness and spunk but he commands her to stay put and behave and stay safe. PICK A SIDE MAN. And also, have a genuine, open and honest conversation.

Phew. Reading this was a bit exhausting so I did a chapter or two a day and it took me ages but I'm not sorry I finished it because I love a book that can make me feel something other than boredom. That means the book has done its job for me.

These two had such fun banter when they weren't fighting (and sometimes when they were!). I wish there had been more of it but instead there were many separations and obstacles and nefarious plans by evil villains and not enough silly moments of humor. But that's probably me being greedy.

It was a well written romance but these types of heroes must be read in moderation for me. I'll definitely be checking out more by this author because she has the kind of wit that I always enjoy in a romance.

  1. They way I'm drawn to hero characters like that but then complain when they drag out the story!

Also, have you finished Heartless Hunter yet??? lol.

    1. Haha, yeah I'm the same way. I think I like to read these frustrating guys if only to yell about them. I'm still working my way through Heartless Hunter. I've been reading 4-6 books at a time and am taking ages to finish anything.
