The Oh-So-Sad DNF Collection: Take 7
I have a bit of a backlog of these since I've been doing my best to get through some of my tbr pile. So anyhow, here's another post that everyone loves to see (lol and yikes). However, I've always reviewed what I consider the good, the meh and the not-so-great and seeing books others have DNF'd also helps people decide what they'd like to read next. We can't all love the same things and someone might read my words and say "Hey, I love that thing you hate. Thanks for the recommendation!" But it's all helpful as long as it's not hateful. So here goes the first batch!
Ooops, nope. That's totally not what this post is about. It's your last chance to turn back!

The Baby Dragon Cafe by A.T. Qureshi
I purchased this book new with a B&N gift card because the cover was so cute and the reviews at the time were all stupendous. Sadly, turns out I didn't think it was stupendous. The more I read, the more awkward the romance grew. I quit because I didn't want to write a one-star review that day. My issues were piling up instead of going the other way. At one point the male main character freakily sucked the main character's bloody finger and they both reacted like middle schoolers. Maybe I'm getting too old but the romance read extremely juvenile considering the ages of the characters and kept giving me the ick.

Witch You Would by Lia Amador
Here's another book that made me feel old. These characters were supposed to be in their mid-20's but they read like teenagers. I tried switching to audio but the sing-songy voice of the lead character made things worse. This was simply way too young feeling for what it was supposed to be and the game show/spell setups were surprisingly dull. DNF at 37%

Hackles and a Honeymoon by Poppy Rhys
I bought this version from a monster romance book box and it makes me sad that I didn't adore it. I DNF'd it at 50% because I just couldn't face reading any more of it. The heroine was kind of gross and lazy, the premise was ridiculous even for me (lol) and even for an alien book BUT then along came a sexed up grandma Mazer clone eating edible undies that drove me nuts and was the last nail in the coffin for me. I don’t know. Maybe it is me. Maybe I’m getting old and crotchety 😆 Or maybe it’s just not a very good alien romance book. It's such a shame because just look at that pretty purple alien on the cover. Anyhow, I have nothing else nice to say and I may (most definitely will) get grumpier if I go back and finish it and no one needs a dose of that today so see ya. To the LFL I go.
That's it for me. I really do love books despite this post and I hope all of your books are five star reads!

I have issues too with characters that act younger than they are, it drives me crazy! The dragon book definitely has a "young" look to it, so I'm not surprised it felt that way.
ReplyDeleteSome of my book choices have been terrible. Especially if I go in without a list and am coerced by cover, blurb and reviews that are all glowing. I should know better by now.
