The Oh-So-Sad DNF Collection: Take 8

I have a bit of a backlog of these since I've been doing my best to get through some of my tbr pile. So anyhow, here's another post that everyone loves to see (lol and yikes).  However, I've always reviewed what I consider the good, the meh and the not-so-great and seeing books others have DNF'd also helps people decide what they'd like to read next. We can't all love the same things and someone might read my words and say "Hey, I love that thing you hate. Thanks for the recommendation!" But it's all helpful as long as it's not hateful against the writer. So here goes the first batch!

Ooops, nope. That's totally not what this post is about. It's your last chance to turn back!

DNF #1

The Fury by John Farris

I realize this is a horror classic but I had to quit at page 50 because it was boring me to death. 💀

I don’t know why I have so many books in my tbr that are so damn slow and aren’t things I love to read. I’m trying to fix that one dnf at a time. I’m going to toss it in a Little Free Library and hopefully it’ll find a better home. I also received this from the now long defunct Nocturnal Readers Box who shafted me out of a lot of $ and I'm still mad about it so out it goes! Good riddance to bad memories, bad book box businesses, terrible business owners and boring as shit books.

DNF #2

Lovely Bad Things by Trisha Wolfe
DNF @ 32%

How can a serial killer who is supposed to be the devil be so boring? I wish blurbs would stop their lying. I am tired of wasting time and money.

Anyhow, I couldn't get past 32% no matter how hard I tried. Between the boring as shit pretentiousness of the "love interest" who is a philosophy professor and also an apparent serial killer, the lack of chemistry, his lame nickname of "Little Halen" for the grown main character and the fact that I have to apparently read this entire book only to be left hanging with a major cliffhanger (according to reviews) I had to call it done. This book used up my last drop of kindness.

DNF #3

Teach Me by Neve Wilder

What’s a romance without chemistry?

Not worth reading 🤷‍♀️

I called it quits at the 30% mark. I loved the rest of the series but this one is a serious slog.

DNF #4

The Bewitching by Silvia Moreno-Garcia

I usually enjoy this author's writing, but this was a bad idea on audio for me. There were three storylines and I found them all a little dull. It started out with two and an uncle that was giving me the ick and that was fine. Almost to be expected in a gothic novel. But then there were three timelines, and the transitions were abrupt, and my brain was too tired to handle all of it right now on audio. I think two timelines with lots of various characters doing the things they do is more than enough for me who can't even remember if I ate breakfast most days. I might have better luck with this in paper but for now it's a DNF @ 30%.

DNF #5

The Naughtier List by Jade West

I had to DNF this sequel to The Naughty List (which I liked) after numerous tries. The audio narrator was nails on a chalkboard for me so I switched to paper and unfortunately for me all I could hear was the dreadful voice of the narrator in my head whenever the main character spoke. *cries*

Maybe I'll revisit it someday, but I doubt it because of the issues above and because it felt repetitive and excessively long to me. Why use one paragraph to set a scene or whatever when you can write 50 pages instead? I don't know, maybe it's me. Maybe I can't handle words anymore. Le sigh.

That's it for me. I really do love books despite this post and I hope all of your books are five star reads!
