The Rust Maidens by Gwendolyn Kiste Review

Image
Atmosphere? Horrifying plot? Great lead character? It's all in here. The Rust Maidens by Gwendolyn Kiste Dark Fiction , 252 pages Released November 2018 Goodreads  | Buy A Copy Here   Something’s happening to the girls on Denton Street. It’s the summer of 1980 in Cleveland, Ohio, and Phoebe Shaw and her best friend Jacqueline have just graduated high school, only to confront an ugly, uncertain future. Across the city, abandoned factories populate the skyline; meanwhile at the shore, one strong spark, and the Cuyahoga River might catch fire. But none of that compares to what’s happening in their own west side neighborhood. The girls Phoebe and Jacqueline have grown up with are changing. It starts with footprints of dark water on the sidewalk. Then, one by one, the girls’ bodies wither away, their fingernails turning to broken glass, and their bones exposed like corroded metal beneath their flesh. As rumors spread about the grotesque transformations, soon everyo...

To Trust a Stranger by Karen Robards Retro Review

Image
About the Book To Trust A Stranger by Karen Robards Romance  Audiobook , 450 pages Released December 2001 Goodreads  | Better World Books    While investigating Sid Carlson's possible adultery on behalf of his wife, Julie, Mac McQuarry becomes attracted to his beautiful client, stumbles into the middle of a mob assassination gone wrong, and finds himself on the run with Julie. These Are My Thoughts To Trust A Stranger starts out silly but it’s the good kind of silly that may actually make you smile if you’re in the right frame of mind. It was fun and just as I was settling in for a fluffy, light-hearted read the heroine went all grrrrr grumbly on me. And it’s never pretty when that happens. Sigh. This is yet another book I only finished because it was an audiobook. Two stars get knocked off because it irritated me so much on my already irritating commute to work. Things begin in a shady part of town in the wee hours of the ...

McCammon never disappoints me. Joining together they leave their small time confidence scams behind to attempt an elaborate kidnapping-for-ransom scheme in New Orleans. Entertaining them with a story about his wretched behavior.  He doesn't know that somebody at another table is watching him. Somebody filled with hatred. Somebody waiting for him to be alone. Somebody with duct tape and a gun. It's a night for vengeance. And a hell of a lot more. These Are My Thoughts Stalking You Now is a novella and will be easy to spoil if I get all long-windy so I’ll be keeping it short. When it begins a stalker is doing what stalkers do best. He is following around a loud mouthed man who deserves a beating just because he’s so obnoxious. Whoops, did I say that out loud? Anyway, the stalker (whose real name is never revealed) has a history with this lout and plans to mete out his revenge tonight. But things go . . . awry. ...

Bones by Andrew Cull Review

Image
This is an excellent collection of creepy little stories. Bones by Andrew Cull Horror Fiction , 212 pages Released June 2018 Goodreads  | Buy A Copy Here   Bones brings together four chilling ghost stories by award winning writer-director Andrew Cull. Four monsters collected in paperback for the first time.  Bones  Four Stories. Four Monsters. These Are My Thoughts: This lovely author sent me two copies of his newest work (all the way from Australia!) so that I could release them in the Little Free Libraries in my care. I had to wrestle it from this beast first though! Here are my thoughts now that I'm finished: Bones is author Andrew Cull’s debut collection of short fiction and it is pretty fantastic if you like a story where the creep factor is high and quickly settles under your skin and festers. Did You Forget About Me? A man returns to his childhood home. He, his mother and sister fled from it 23 years earlie...

A red-bearded thug, an old picture and a three hundred year-old vendetta soon have Catriona worried she could lose everything - including her mysterious time traveling Scotsman.
