Got My Eye On (10)

I saw a post over at Mailbox Monday that was encouraging readers to share their best finds of the week via their Books That Caught Our Eye posts. I love, love, love that idea so this is my warped version of it.

This was getting a little unwieldy and making me look a little like a hoarder (ahem) so I'm going to do my best to keep these down to three. It's going to be hard for me but it must be done. I've already blown up my Ipad due to fullness and had to restore the thing to factory settings.

Here are the three books I've added to my wishlist over the last week with credit to my enablers :) Be sure and visit them if you want more excellent recommendations and have some room left on your reader.

Swallow You Whole by Jasper Black (Fantasy/Humor)

For two villainous nobles, it is a desperate means to an end. For two clever demons...it is one hell of a tax break.

Henry and James have accidentally staked claim on the same soul. Elliot Dosett, the bitter and sickly son of a successful steel magnate, summoned a demon in hopes of solving his trouble with his father and inheriting the estate. Violet Clifton, his aunt, also summoned a demon in order to rid herself of a useless husband and take over the business he leaves behind. In order to delay her own death, she also signs away Elliot's soul. And so the paperwork begins to fly.

Lady is a fallen angel. He is also one of Hell's top auditors. He is sent to monitor the activity of Henry and James. Once he finds out which demon is trying to cheat Hell, his job is to send them back in chains.

Henry will do anything to avoid being reported, dragging James and Lady down the path of a capricious scheme. Yet Satan is hot on their heels and will stop at nothing to hunt them all down; even if that means interrupting God's latest round of golf.Love can never die.

Does this not like sound like pure joy?

Infini by Krista & Becca Ritchie (romance)

Some love is infinite

"Don’t have a best friend that’s a girl" — this was the advice from my older cousin. I didn’t take it. Because he followed with, "friends don’t f*ck friends. And you’ll want to f*ck her."

It was terrible advice.

My cousin should’ve told me that being best friends with Baylee Wright — since she was twelve — would be the best and worst decision of my life.

He should have told me to protect her from what was coming.

He should have told me that when a darkness crawled towards us, there’d be no safety net.

Now I’ve signed back on to the same Vegas acrobatic show as Baylee, working together for the first time in years. And she tells me that she’s having trouble in a certain “area” of her life — because of our past.

“You can help me fix it,” she says.

And then she hands me a list.

Behind Her Eyes by Sarah Pinborough (thriller)

Why is everyone talking about the ending of Sarah Pinborough's Behind Her Eyes?

Louise is a single mom, a secretary, stuck in a modern-day rut. On a rare night out, she meets a man in a bar and sparks fly. Though he leaves after they kiss, she’s thrilled she finally connected with someone.

When Louise arrives at work on Monday, she meets her new boss, David. The man from the bar. The very married man from the bar…who says the kiss was a terrible mistake but who still can’t keep his eyes off Louise.

And then Louise bumps into Adele, who’s new to town and in need of a friend, but she also just happens to be married to David. David and Adele look like the picture-perfect husband and wife, but then why is David so controlling, and why is Adele so scared of him?

As Louise is drawn into David and Adele’s orbit, she uncovers more puzzling questions than answers. The only thing that is crystal clear is that something in this marriage is very, very wrong, but Louise can’t guess how wrong―and how far a person might go to protect their marriage’s secrets.

  1. I have a copy of Behind Her Eyes sitting on my table waiting for me to find time for it. I've heard only good things about the author and LOVED The Language of Dying late last year. Great choices and Swallow You Whole has piqued my interest after seeing it here.
