Can't Wait Wednesday: Sleeping Beauties by Stephen King & Owen King

Can't-Wait Wednesday is a weekly meme at Wishful Endings to spotlight and discuss the books we're excited about that we have yet to read. Generally they're books that have yet to be released. It's based on Waiting on Wednesday, hosted by Jill at Breaking the Spine.

Sleeping Beauties by Stephen King & Owen King
Scheduled Release: September 2017
Amazon ♦ Goodreads

In this spectacular father-son collaboration, Stephen King and Owen King tell the highest of high-stakes stories: what might happen if women disappeared from the world of men?

In a future so real and near it might be now, something happens when women go to sleep; they become shrouded in a cocoon-like gauze. If they are awakened, if the gauze wrapping their bodies is disturbed or violated, the women become feral and spectacularly violent; and while they sleep they go to another place. The men of our world are abandoned, left to their increasingly primal devices. One woman, however, the mysterious Evie, is immune to the blessing or curse of the sleeping disease. Is Evie a medical anomaly to be studied, or is she a demon who must be slain? Set in a small Appalachian town whose primary employer is a women’s prison, Sleeping Beauties is wildly provocative and gloriously absorbing.

While I've read many of Stephen King's and Joe Hill's novels and short story collections, I've never read anything by Owen King. The premise of this story sounds kind of interesting and I can't wait to see if it lives up to its blurb which promises me it's "wildly provocative and gloriously absorbing". I'll be sure to let you know either way.

What book are you most excited about this week?

  1. I was disappointed with Gwendy's Button Box, but I had to keep reminding myself that it was an abandoned story that King simply allowed Chizmar to finish. Hopefully a collaboration like this will be more successful, especially since his books with Straub were so fantastic.

    1. I didn't know that about Gwendy's Button Box, I'll probably read it when I find a discounted copy ;) I'm keeping my fingers crossed this is a great one.

  2. A friend of mine just went to a event they were speaking about this book at and it sounds interesting. I didn't even know he had a son that was an author. I haven't read King in many years.

  3. So I guess everyone in the King family is talented. I LOVE Joe Hill so I can't help but wonder if my King family luck will continue with Owen. Guess I'll have to wait and see. I'm so excited for this one and may even have to pre-order it. I also cracked and ordered Gwendy's from Amazon a few weeks ago. HAD to do it. Great choice.

  7. I haven't really enjoyed the recent Stephen King offerings, finding them a bit too slow I guess! I loved Heart Shaped Box but didn't like the flashback parts of Horns...but I have splurged on The Fireman. Didn't know there was another King to look out for...
