The Boyfriend by Freida McFadden | Thriller Fiction Review
Don't start this or you might not be able to put it down (even though you know you probably should!)
I get the appeal of these books. They are fun to read but they are like Pringles. You eat one and you can't stop. I recommend eating something else before you get sucked in.
Anyhow, this one features a woman named Sydney who is desperate for a man so she can have babies "before she's 90" because her mother keeps nagging her and going so far as to send her an article about a woman who had a baby in her 90's. WTF? I mean, maybe just have a baby and forget about the man but fine. Ok. Whatever. At least this heroine doesn't have a designer bag/clothes/shoe fetish so it could've been worse. She just dates and dates and dates some more even though most of the dates are dreadful. Honestly, she should've just adopted some dogs. They'll always stick you with the food bill but at least they'll never creep you out and say insulting shit to your face. Of course, she attracts a weirdo stalker and doesn't deal with him properly. She also starts to date a doctor named Tom after her friend who was also dating a doctor named Tom who refused to be seen in public with her friend has JUST been murdered. Self-preservation just isn't a thing for Sydney no-brains because she Must Have Man, Must Have Baby. Even if it kills her.
There are tons of red-herrings and reveals that come out of nowhere and don't make a lot of sense and there's an irritating bit of insinuation that people who like horror movies are all murderous loonies that I just cannot let go . . . But in the end, all ends well for *almost* everybody except the few who don't make it out alive.
I should stop reading these books because I can't ignore how ridiculous they are but that's also part of their charm even if a lot of people won't admit it, lol.

Her books are very hit or miss for me, and lately they've been more of a miss, so I'll definitely be passing on this one.
