Books from the Backlog: Zombie by Joyce Carol Oates

Carole @ Carole's Random Life In Books has created a fun new feature called Books from the Backlog to spotlight neglected and unloved books that have been sitting on your bookshelf for too long.

If you would like to join in, click the pic above to find out more.

My Neglected Book of the Week is Zombie by Joyce Carol Oates.

Here it sits in a pile with many other long neglected books I had to have.

The Goodreads Blurbage:

"Meet Quentin P., the most believably terrifying sexual psychopath and killer ever brought to life in fiction. The author deftly puts you inside the mind of a serial killer--succeeding not in writing about madness, but in writing with the logic of madness.

Why did I add this book to my tbr pile? I bought this book, I don't even know when, at a library book sale. It was likely over 5+ years ago because I remember ducking out of picture day at my daughter's dance studio to run across the street to spend time with books instead of dance mom's. I've read this author in the past with mixed results. These are the ones I've reviewed:

4 Stars                       DNF                             3 Stars                         4 Stars

Have you read it?  Should I?

Comments

  1. I think you should give it a go since you have had luck in the past with the author (minus the DNF!)

  2. Time spent with books is WAY more fun than time spent with dance moms. I don't think I've ever read Joyce Carol Oats though she's been dancing around the edges of my TBR for years. I'd give it a try. Worst case you just have another DNF!

    1. Books win over chit-chatting with dance mom's any day :) True, I think I'll give it 50 pages and see what's what.

  3. The synopsis sounds like this could be a scarily insightful read! I say read it cos you've done pretty well with the author's previous books and Zombie doesn't look to have lots of pages

  4. I've never read this particular Oates, but I don't always like her stuff. Maybe because I first had to read and dissect her short stories in high school English class. ;D

    1. I never had to do that but I can see how it could ruin her books!

  5. I haven't read Oates before but this sounds like it could be pretty good. I do enjoy books involving serial killers. I am glad to know that I am not the only mom know to sneak away in order to look at books :) Thanks for joining in this week!

  6. I've read one book by the author and didn't like it, more because I hated one of the characters than anything else. It's not a genre I read much in.

  7. Books vs Dance Moms - I can see why you went with books :) I don't know that I've read this author before, I think I have, but I can see why you grabbed this book. I have read Tananarive Due before her and really loved her.

  10. That's the whole blurb? Honestly I hate blurbs like that. I still feel like I don't know what the book is about. Is there even a plot? Lol. I hope you like it though!

  11. With limited access to the internet until mine at home s fixed, I'm making progress with my TBR. LOL This sounds right up my alley!

  12. Books are way more preferable to dance moms. If you never read this, you still did good. LOL.

  13. After reading the blurb and seeing the GR average rating I'm not sure this one is for me but 3 our of 4 books you enjoyed of this authors is a good reason to try another one :)
