My Neglected Book of the Week is  My Best Friend's Exorcism by Grady Hendrix  which has a 3.91 rating on Goodreads. 80's nostagalia, friendship and a little demon action?  I want to read this like NOW but for some reason I keep pushing it back for other commitments. I bought it not too long ago but have been wanting to read a copy ever since the first reviews started rolling in. Last year I read and 5 starred his book We Sold Our Souls and with a little luck, and sticking to my reading goals, this year will be the year I get to read my copy. My Best Friend's Exorcism Abby and Gretchen have been best friends since fifth grade, when they bonded over a shared love of E....

My friend's reviews are all over the map and range from 2's to all the stars. They say things like, " The thing was this book reads so slow that I kept falling asleep" and "The Shining Girls is a horrid and nightmarish tale but so completely intense and unforgettable that it's certain to leave a lasting impression" and "frustrating"   and "This was a very cool book with a fantastic premise and executed brilliantly. I think it deserves 5 stars for keeping me so hooked, and that's exactly what I'm going to give it" . I trust these people, all...

If you would like to join in, click the pic above to find out more. My Neglected Book of the Week is  The Bottoms by Joe R. Lansdale .   I needed this one so desperately that I bought it twice. Once at a library sale and once from a bookswap. I hope I love it but I'm pretty certain I will. The Goodreads Blurbage: The narrator of The Bottoms is Harry Collins, an old man obsessively reflecting on certain key experiences of his childhood. In 1933, the year that forms the centerpiece of the narrative, Harry is 11 years old and living with his mother, father, and younger sister on a farm outside of Marvel Creek, Texas, near the Sabine River bottoms. Harry's world changes forever when he discovers the corpse of a young black woman tied to a tree in the forest ...

Carole @ Carole's Random Life In Books  has created a fun feature called Books from the Backlog to spotlight neglected and unloved books that have been sitting on your bookshelf for too long. If you would like to join in, click the pic above to find out more. My Neglected Book of the Week is  THIS SYMBIOTIC FASCINATION by Charlee Jacob  which has a 3.67 rating on Goodreads. The most consistent words I see when skimming reviews is "disgusting" and "disturbing". Well, that sounds delightful to me.   The Goodreads Blurbage: Tawne Delaney is not what men consider beautiful and, at 37, is very lonely. She fantasizes about her dream lover--but the man she meets is a nightmare. Arcan Tyler is a rapist and murderer, possessed by animal spirit forces. If they are unleashed, he will cease to be human. For now, Arcan is all too human, and finds something new and rare in Tawne. But love among these creatures is not romantic: it is parasitic. ...

Carole @ Carole's Random Life In Books  has created a fun feature called Books from the Backlog to spotlight neglected and unloved books that have been sitting on your bookshelf for too long. If you would like to join in, click the pic above to find out more. My Neglected Book of the Week is  Lizzie Borden by Elizabeth Engstrom .    It's been so long that I can't even remember when I bought this book but I believe  it was one of the books I bought on my daily lunch break at the used book store back in the 90's. It gets a 3.59 average rating over at Goodreads and my one friend who read it gave it four stars and said READ IT!! so I should probably read it soonish. The Goodreads Blurbage: "Lizzie Borden took an axe . . ". Or did she? One hundred years ago, Andrew and Abby Borden were brutally murdered. Their youngest daughter Lizzie was arrested and tried for the killings and--shockingly to many--was found innocent. Why di...

Books from the Backlog: Heart Beast by Tanith Lee

Carole @ Carole's Random Life In Books  has created a fun feature called Books from the Backlog to spotlight neglected and unloved books that have been sitting on your bookshelf for too long. If you would like to join in, click the pic above to find out more. My Neglected Book of the Week is Heart Beast by Tanith Lee .   I have had this book in my tbr since the 90's. Yeah, wish I were kidding. Goodreads gives it a 3.51 and my two Goodreads friends who have read it give a 3. I'm torn. It sounds promising but the reviews make it sound like it has some of identity issue. It's a fantasy, then it's a horror novel and there's some romantic stuff mixed in there. I assume I have no issues with any of that so I may love it but it sounds like a very descriptive sort of read and I have to be in a certain kind of mood for that.  The Goodreads Blurbage: In the streets of the sukh, Daniel Vehmund moves among snake charmers and dagger jugglers. Wanted f...

If you would like to join in, click the pic above to find out more. My Neglected Book of the Week is The Blue Viking by Sandra Hill .   I figured since he'd been hiding away in the very back of a bookshelf stacked three stacks deep that he deserved to be let out to get a little sun and fresh air. I bought this in 2001 brand new when it was first released and never read it. He and his abs have been waiting so very long that I think I may break down and give him a read soon(ish). When I finish with my review commitments, that is. And, yep, I accidentally hit up Netgalley again. The Goodreads Blurbage: "What in the name of Thor could be making this Viking so blue? - Eating haggis? - Listening to those insufferable bagpipes? - Traveling through Scotland with...

If you would like to join in, click the pic above to find out more. My Neglected Book of the Week is Zombie by Joyce Carol Oates .      Here it sits in a pile with many other long neglected books I had to have. The Goodreads Blurbage: "Meet Quentin P., the most believably terrifying sexual psychopath and killer ever brought to life in fiction. The author deftly puts you inside the mind of a serial killer--succeeding not in writing about madness, but in writing with the logic of madness. Why did I add this book to my tbr pile?  I bought this book, I don't even know when, at a library book sale. It was likely over 5+ years ago because I remember ducking out of picture day at my daughter's dance studio to run across the street to spend...

If you would like to join in, click the pic above to find out more. My Neglected Book of the Week is Brand New Cherry Flavor by Todd Grimson .  I bought this book when it was released back in 1997. Yep. I should be ashamed. It feel to the bottom of a storage bin where it has remained until recently when I decided to hunt for Afterage by Yvonne Navarro . If you would like to join in, click the pic above to find out more. My Neglected Book of the Week will be one I had to read soooo badly that I ended up acquiring it twice. As of today, I still haven't read either copy. Shame. The Goodreads Blurbage: "Jean-Baptiste Grenouille, the protagonist of Patrick Suskind’s début novel, is arguably one of the most extraordinary characters in contemporary fiction. This extraordinariness, which lies in his unprecedented and enviable power of smell, is an evident manifestation of the author’s creative genius and is responsible for the immense readability of this novel. The novel tells the story of Grenouille’s quest to make the finest perfume in the world–-and in the process of doing so he kills twenty-five virgin girls....
