Horror Film Friday - More Mini's

I have sadly neglected this little feature, as I have done with many things in my life, but I have NOT stopped watching horror films. If anything, I have been watching more than ever now that I've discovered party watches via Netflix and Prime. Here are some mini reviews of my recent watches. If you're on Twitter or Letterboxd you might've seen these already (sorry about that!).

The Love Witch (2016)

SHE LOVED MEN… TO DEATH

Elaine, a beautiful young witch, is determined to find a man to love her. In her gothic Victorian apartment she makes spells and potions, and then picks up men and seduces them. However her spells work too well, and she ends up with a string of hapless victims. When she finally meets the man of her dreams, her desperation to be loved will drive her to the brink of insanity and murder.

My two cents for free!

A talented young witch desperately wants love and performs love spells on hapless and worthless and icky (if you ask me) men and discovers the spell works a little too good . . .

This was a beautiful film filled with just the right amount of madness and bloodshed for my liking. I recommend!

Streaming on Amazon Prime.

⭐⭐⭐⭐

Hack O' Lantern (1988)

THE POWER IS IN THE BLOOD.
A young boy named Tommy sees his father murdered by his grandfather in a brutal satanic ritual on Halloween night. Years later, as Tommy’s grandfather attempts to initiate him into the cult, a mysterious killer begins preying on the people closest to Tommy.

My two cents for free!

It’s time for the ceremony of BLOOOOD! So tuck in your best flannel and don your widdle black capelet and let’s get down to the business of ogling your family members and killin’!

This movie is dreadful and has plenty of useless musical and stand-up and dancing interludes that appear for no reason whatsoever 🙃

The acting is something to behold but if there ever was an award for best pouty puss face, Tommy here deserves it! Watch at your own risk.

Streaming on Shudder.

⭐⭐

Elvira Mistress of the Dark (1988)

When her great aunt dies, famed horror hostess Elvira heads for the uptight new England town of Falwell to claim her inheritance of a haunted house, a witch’s cookbook and a punk rock poodle. But once the stuffy locals get an eyeful of the scream queen’s ample assets, all hell busts out & breaks loose.

My two cents for free!

How did I miss this all these years? It’s so silly and so amazing! Boy, that Elvira sure knew how to get even with her uptight, holier than tho haters 😹 Recommend if you're in the mood for a little sarcastic fun.

Streaming on Shudder.

⭐⭐⭐⭐1/2
