A Couple of Things That Aren't Awful
My blog has been neglected and has turned into nothing but a bunch of reviews. I kind of hate that for me because it doesn't inspire me to update and I end up neglecting it for months on end. The past few years have been full of distractions, and I've reached the point where I'm over picking up my phone and stressing myself out. I want to try something new to distract myself from everything awful. I'm hoping to quickly whip up a post with a couple of random things a few times a week in addition to my reviews. It might (probably will) be a mini book update, a tarot card, a treat, a bargain link, my latest knitting update, some pet tax. I want to be better about blogging which I tend to do in fits and spurts. I love looking at unorganized posts of random things so maybe someone else will too? If not, I'll have fun over here all by myself and it'll be really nice to think about a few lighthearted, whimsical things for a minute or two instead of the doom and gloom that's so easy to find everywhere I look.
The Book
Yesterday I started reading Hemlock & Silver by T. Kingfisher.
I'm about 35% in and I'm enjoying the heroine, a master of poison, who has a bit of a spiky personality and tests out the poison antidotes on herself first. She is requested by the King to help his daughter Snow (yep, that one) who he believes is suffering from some sort of slow poisoning. She's used to dealing with locals and drug addicts. Some live, some die but she does her best. But working for the King ratches up the stress. It's fun watching her be so completely out of her element. I've had a string of dnf's lately and am glad this one isn't boring me to death 😅
The Tarot Card
Today's tarot pull is from the Comfy Cozy Witch Oracle which is mostly light-hearted and comforting. I think it's telling me to get off my butt and have some fun. I have a dog here that's telling me the same thing right now by sticking his snout all over my leggings so I guess it's time to take a break and toss a ball. I hope you're able to take a few minutes today and have some fun.
The Treat
I used up my Old Navy reward points to grab this cute coat. I know ON isn't exactly a sustainable brand but I use their reward cc to pay my bills and they give me free clothes that I typically keep forever. They did a cute 90's grungy collab with Anna Sui recently and the prices are ugh for Old Navy but if you have points it's definitely worth a look.
The Project
I've been working on this sucker for nearly a year. Ok, maybe not. If that were true it would be finished, lol. I did start it nearly a year ago and put it aside to do whatever and am slowly getting back to it. The back panel is nearly finished so I guess that's something. I bought it on sale from We Are Knitters. They put together some cute kits with decent instructions but they are all over the place on their pricing and it drives me nuts. I'd only buy from them if they're having a spectacular sale otherwise Lion Brand has much betters deals and has one of my favorite designers Two of Wands who puts together some great knitalongs that I'd join if I weren't such a slowpoke.
This is what it might look if I ever get it finished!
The Pet Tax
Meet my new silly boy Benny. I tried going without a dog after the passing of my last old boy, Bailey, but I didn't last very long. We brought Benny home in March and he is growing into the sweetest, silliest, high-energy velcro boy. He's a love and though I've lost a lot sleep and several pairs of flip-flops and shoes, I have absolutely zero regrets.
Well I'm off to play ball for a few minutes before it's back to work time.
