Heavy Petting by Elena Dawne | Monster Romance Review

Image
Oh, the gems I find on Kindle Unlimited! My 2 Cents for Free! Heavy Petting by Elena Dawne Released October 2024 Source: Kindle Unlimited See more @  Goodreads Well, this book wasn't boring, lol. This is an erotic monster fantasy tale where the monster guardians have slain all of the aggressive and intolerable humans and there is now peace all across the land (ahhh, if only it were our reality!) The hard working, steadfast guardians are now allowed to rest and given a "soul companion" as a reward. This soul companion is a human who is basically a pet to care for. Yep, you read that right. The humans left to roam the planet are small and docile and sweet. Anyhow, this enormous behorned monster man is given Vanya who is all of those things and is also used to living in what is described as a dog kennel. She was a slave to some evil people and is now relieved to find her monster savior dreams coming true in every way.  What follows is a monsterporn extravaganza. It gets weir...

New Books Because You Know You Deserve Them! This is where I spotlight the sparkling new weekly releases that are tempting me so you can succumb to temptation too. The focus will be on dark fiction and romance with the occasional thriller tossed in that catches my eye. I'm a little late today because I didn't finish this draft before leaving for a trip. But I'm here now and boy is there ever a ton of good sounding weird fiction being released today. Will I find time to read all 9 of them? Highly unlikely but I'll try to read a bunch before 2026 is over. First the  HORROR and HORRORish   because it'll always be my first love. A Box Full of Darkness by Simone St. James Siblings return to the house they fled eighteen years before, called back by the ghost of their long-missing brother and his haunting request to come home. Strange things happen in Fell, New York: A mysterious drowning at the town’s roadside motel. The unexplained death of a young girl whose bod...

We Live Here Now by Sarah Pinborough | Horror Fiction

Image
The one where the people are almost worse than any lingering supernatural threat šŸ™€ My 2 Cents for Free! We Live Here Now by Sarah Pinborough Released May 2025 Source: Kindle Unlimited Get it at your local library or see more @  Goodreads If you're in the mood to read about horrible people with ugly secrets, hurting each other with their secrets and lies as they navigate life in a possibly haunted home, have I ever got a recommendation for you! Emily is recovering from a fall from a cliff and an extended hospital stay. While she was out cold in the hospital her husband Freddie decided to move them away from city life and their friends into an old sprawling country home. A home so old and fancy it has its own name, Larkin Lodge. You know that spells trouble, right? Why on earth this guy thought doing such a thing would be a good idea because Emily maybe mentioned moving a time or two is beyond me, but some people just aren't very bright ( later: turns out he had a very selfish ...

New Books Because You Know You Deserve Them! This is where I spotlight brand new releases that are tempting me so you can succumb to temptation too. The focus will be on dark fiction and romance and the occasional thriller that catches my eye. Today I found three horror novels and two monster romances from new-to-me writers. Will I find the time to read them all? Who knows but I'm going to try my best. First the HORROR because it'll always be my first love.   Pig Wife by Abbey Luck (graphic novel) Accidentally trapped in an underground bunker, a teen girl must navigate the bizarre secrets within. This astonishing indie-horror graphic novel will keep readers guessing—and turning pages! Mary had a bad feeling even before they arrived at dead Aunt Pearl’s house. Dragged to a remote mining town so her mom and stepdad can settle Pearl’s estate, Mary can't wait to escape from her wreck of a family—but she’s stuck with them in the middle of nowhere. The Fruitcake by Leah Orr | Thriller/Dark Fiction Review

Image
This is such a weird and so hard to put down book. My 2 Cents for Free! The Fruitcake by Leah Orr Released October 2023 Source: Audible Plus Catalog Get it at your local library or see more @  Goodreads This is a wild book. I found it in the Audible Plus catalog and thought, why the heck not. May as well get my money's worth out of my pricey Audible plan. A well-to-do couple with triplets moves into a very pricey and exclusive gated community. Holly has people who help clean and care for the kids and life is pretty near perfect from what I’m reading. At least on the surface. As she begins to become friendly with some of the women in the community, she learns of some strange things simmering beneath the perfect exterior but it’s the fruitcake tradition that brings it all to the surface. I know. Why fruitcake? Does anyone eat fruitcake? Why eat fruitcake when you can eat cheesecake or chocolate cake or frosted cardboard, ffs? I don’t get it but I don’t have to. It doesn’t matt...

New Books Because You Know You Need Them! I'm going to start spotlighting brand new releases I've added to my "want to buy" list so you can succumb to temptation too. The focus will be on dark fiction and romance and the occasional thriller. Today I found two tempting horror novels and one dark romance from new-to-me writers.  The Bloody Brick Road by Maude Royer (horror fiction) In this wildly creative, horror-soaked reimagining of L. Frank Baum’s The Wonderful Wizard of Oz, nothing is as it seems in Dorothy’s dystopian nightmare. Fans of Tender Is the Flesh and Maeve Fly will want to follow her twisted journey down the yellow-brick road. When nineteen-year-old Dorothy NoroĆ®t finds out she is pregnant, the road ahead seems bathed in golden light. She has a hard-working boyfriend, a beautiful home, and a job where she works with her best friend. But on October 2nd, 1994, everything changes. Fast forward twenty-four years. The city of Montreal is plagued by extremist ...

Play Nice by Rachel Harrison | Horror Fiction Review

Image
The people are awful but I couldn't stop reading. My 2 Cents for Free! Play Nice by Rachel Harrison Released September 2025 Source: Book of the Month Club (you can join here using my referral link) Get it at your local library or see more @  Goodreads Chappell Roan could've soundtracked this one. "I love being bitter It makes me feel better Bitter feels better than tryna get better and I Yes, I love being bitter But it makes me feel weathered Now I'm sick in the head and it's not even my fault" I've read much of Rachel Harrison's work and this one harkens back to the bitterness between the friends featured in The Return. That one wasn't my favorite, but I may reread and may have a change of heart. I think I'm digging these bitter characters lately. This time around it focuses on a family with many secrets and secret resentments while a demon may or may not be thriving as they emotionally destroy themselves. There's a lot of rage and...
