Reads of Many Moons Past (4) Resurrected

I once thought it might be fun to start looking back in time and seeing what I was reading this time last year and all of the previous years since I started cataloging my reads! But then I got lazy and stopped doing it. Now that social media has become a stressful mess, it may be time to resurrect this post because older reads need love too. With the steady stream of new book releases, it's easy to miss some older gems. If you're a nerd like me and want to do this, please leave me a link to your post. I'd love to see it!

Here are the books I was reading this same time last year and all the years before.

February 2025

Where I End by Sophie White

Some of my thoughts then:

" The descriptions are often beautifully written, nearly poetic but the content is incredibly cruel and difficult to read, and it left me feeling sick to my stomach in the worst way."

The September House by Carissa Orlando

Some of my thoughts then:

"This is a great book with a modern-day gothic feel dealing with trauma, some icky moments and some incredibly difficult family dynamics."

A Small Light & Other Stories by Sara Century

Some of my thoughts then:

"A Small Light & Other Stories is an eerie, melancholy collection of sapphic horror and haunting stories focusing on the characters and an always present slow creeping dread. I can easily recommend this collection to fans of this type of horror story."

White Ibis by Wendy Dalrymple

Some of my thoughts then:

"This book went some places I wasn’t expecting and I was so happy about it! It features awful characters and cringeworthy body horror and was the perfect length. This is good stuff. Read it if you want a little evil in your life."

Hellbound In A Hurry by Cheryl Low

Some of my thoughts then:

"This was such a wild, violent adventure with a good heart beating at its center. I think it’ll be hard to resist falling in love with its perfectly imperfect strong main character."

The Duchess Deal by Tessa Dare

Some of my thoughts then:

"I need characters who have chemistry and joy and humor and lust and love and all of those good things and these two had it from their first insane exchange. They are SO funny together and I wasn't expecting that. Usually beauty and the beast type books feature a rough and grumbly hero with a super bad attitude. And this dude has one but he also tolerates the teasing and the silliest of pet names and he isn't a jerk. Soon enough he learns to love it. It is all so very lovely.

I want all books to be this charming even the cannibalistic serial killer ones! Just kidding. Sort of."

Becoming by Michella Obama

Some of what I thought then:

"I read this purely for myself because I needed a reminder that there is strength and intelligence and warmth and grace still out there in this terrible world. It was an excellently written and narrated memoir, but it made me sad for all that is being undone at the moment."

The Miniaturist by Jessie Burton

Some of my thoughts then:

"The characters are richly detailed and nuanced. Even the people that I disliked early on became fleshed out and believably flawed characters. They make plenty of mistakes and pay dearly for them. So although this is not my usual genre of choice, it turned out to be an engrossing and richly detailed story of secrets and little mysteries that took many unexpected turns I didn’t anticipate. The women also totally steal the show and I recommend it if you like secrets and drama and can stomach some brief moments of terrible violence."

Sweetheart, Sweetheart by Bernard Taylor

Some of my thoughts then:

"This book was a beautiful example of the atmospheric, slow burn ghost story. Why it isn’t better known is beyond me. It was leagues better than most of the recent novels I’ve read. It actually gave me the creeps a time or two and that almost never happens."

Priest by Sierra Simone

Some of my thoughts then:

"Priest is totally unrealistic and full of very dirty sex and if you are deeply religious this will no doubt offend you. There’s not a lot of plot here to go around either. I was also not at all fooled by Tyler’s silly proclamations of love. He can’t fool me, I know he was just falling in love with her boobs and pink parts. This book is all about the lust and I kind of felt bad for him.

So although this started out spectacularly, by the midway point I felt like I had been dropped into a steamy Lifetime movie what with all of the dramatics and I kept waiting for someone to turn up dead. All this drama was more than I signed up for. Really, I just signed up for the taboo sauciness. I suppose it’s my fault. Still, I’d probably read another . . ."

I read (or try to) a lot of books, so I've tried to pick the highest rated (by me) book during this posts timeframe. So, if you see a DNF or low rated book that means I made terrible choices for myself that week.

As always, please share your thoughts if you've read any of them! I love to hear them.
