Reads of Many Moons Past (4) Resurrected

Image
I once thought it might be fun to start looking back in time and seeing what I was reading this time last year and all of the previous years since I started cataloging my reads! But then I got lazy and stopped doing it. Now that social media has become a stressful mess, it may be time to resurrect this post because  older reads need love too. With the steady stream of new book releases, it's easy to miss some older gems. If you're a nerd like me and want to do this, please leave me a link to your post. I'd love to see it! Here are the books I was reading this same time last year and all the years before. February 2025  Where I End by Sophie White Some of my thoughts then: "  The descriptions are often beautifully written, nearly poetic but the content is incredibly cruel and difficult to read, and it left me feeling sick to my stomach in the worst way. " 3 ★'s February 2024 The September House by Carissa Orlando Some of my thoughts then: "This is a great ...

Retro Review: American Queen by Sierra Simone

Image
I should probably call it quits on this author. American Queen by Sierra Simone Released October 2016 Romance   |   Goodreads    |  Amazon Source:  Overdrive Borrow It starts with a stolen kiss under an English sky, and it ends with a walk down the aisle. It starts with the President sending his best friend to woo me on his behalf, and it ends with my heart split in two. It starts with buried secrets and dangerous desires…and ends with the three of us bound together with a hateful love sharper than any barbed wire. My name is Greer Galloway, and I serve at the pleasure of the President of the United States. This is the story of an American Queen. My 2 Cents For Free! This author likes to jam a lot of stuff into her books and into her heroines and this story is no exception. She also likes to set up preposterous plot lines and run with them. I said this about her book  Priest  but it tota...

Retro Review: Beyond Shame by Kit Rocha

Image
I am finally back to my review archive project. I read this back in 2013 and never did get back to the series after this one. Should I bother after all this time? Beyond Shame by Kit Rocha Released September 2012 Romance   |   Goodreads    |  Amazon Source:  Purchased With My Own $ All Noelle Cunningham has ever wanted is a life beyond–beyond the walls of Eden, where only the righteous are allowed to remain, and beyond her stiflingly restrictive existence as a councilman’s daughter. But only ruins lie outside the City, remnants of a society destroyed by solar storms decades earlier. The sectors surrounding Eden house the corrupt, the criminal–men like Jasper McCray, bootlegger and cage fighter. Jas clawed his way up from nothing to stand at the right hand of Sector Four’s ruthless leader, and he’ll defend the O’Kane gang with his life. But no fight ever prepared him for the exiled City girl who falls at his feet. Her innocence is u...

Reads of Many Moons Past (2)

I thought it might be fun to start looking back in time and seeing what I was reading this time last year and all of the previous years since I started cataloging my reads! I sometimes see people doing this on social media and it's a fun reminder that older reads need loving too . If you're a nerd like me and want to do this please leave me a link to your post. I'd love to see it! November 2018 Week 2 "Who needs a little demon in their life? Or body?! The unabridged audio contains two excellent connected stories of demonic possession. One is a novella that sets the scene for the novel to follow. You’ll want to read/listen to them back to back because they’re both horrifyingly hard to put down." 4 ★'s November 2017 " A rich guy offers to pay a group of people to stay a few nights in a haunted house to prove there is life after death. All previous attempts to do such a stupid thing at this particular house have ended v...

The Oh-So-Sad DNF Collection: Take 3

Image
I have had a good run of books lately but there have been a few that didn't quite work out for me. I don't like to DNF but I also don't like the idea of struggling through a book that doesn't get along with me. Here is a little collection of books I had to give up on/skim-finish because I am a quitter and I have entirely too many books in my tbr pile. Family Business  by  Brett Williams I had to DNF this audiobook at 20% because of the animal abuse. I suppose I need to be better about researching books before I agree to review them. I prefer going in blind and reading reviews after I've read the book so as not to get my opinion tainted, or accidentally snatching a phrase. It usually works out for me but sometimes avoiding blurbs and reviews bites me in the butt. This is one of those times. I can stomach almost anything but too much animal abuse is something that haunts me and this book is filled to the brim with it and it is explicit. TW: Rape, Animal C...

Pound of Flesh by Jessa Kane Book Review

Image
I pressed my sarcasm button and this spewed out. Pound of Flesh by Jessa Kane Erotica   Released December 2016 Goodreads  | I Know You Want To Buy A Copy So Do It Here   Source: Purchased With My Own $ Beast saw Beauty. And the hunt was on.  A beast has just kicked down my front door.  He’s massive, scarred, just out of prison and refuses to budge.  Unless I go with him.  He’s made it clear what he wants—my untouched body beneath his giant, damaged one.  If I run, he’ll hunt me down and take it.  But when he slips and shows me his desperation…  I’m no longer sure whether I want to run to him or away from him.  These Are My Thoughts I read this a little while ago but someone told me my blog has been boring lately and they are probably right. I figured this review might perk up your eyeballs or send you running screaming as far away from me and my blog as possible. I aim to do both but...

#BookReview: Bad Reputation by Nicole Edwards

Do not be sucked in by the cover alone like me! Bad Reputation by Nicole Edwards   Romance Released October 2017 Amazon  ♦  Goodreads Meet the most wanted players in sports . . . one ridiculously hot alpha male at a time. Chase: With a nickname like “Sin,” it’s no wonder they call me the bad boy of hockey. Opponents curse me. Fans scream my name—in the arena and in other, much more private places. Penalties or not, I’m not afraid to dish out a little pain. But pleasure? That’s my weakness. And no one knows it better than my best friend, Cassie Desrosiers. I’d have to be blind not to notice her rocking body and teasing grin. So when she invites me along on a trip to Vegas, my curiosity isn’t the only thing that’s aroused. Cassie: Chase Barrett is a world-class A-hole. As his best friend, I’m allowed to call him on his BS. Who else is going to do it? Certainly not the puck bunnies swooning at every flex of his biceps. Everyone knows that Chase is the love-’em...
