What We've Been Up To
Whoops, I missed many weeks this time. I don't even know where to start now so I'll just jump in. I stopped with the madness that was 80 Day Obsession after injuring my back twice. I'm still sore both emotionally and physically. I started this program to make my body stronger but my body is not cooperating. I'm sticking with yoga and non-impact cardio. My latest plan is Beachbody's 3 Week Yoga Retreat. It's simple, easy and gentle and about the only thing my body can handle right now.
Remember my promise to read a book picked by all of you lovely readers for "My TBR List" ? Welp, I have failed. Now it's only good as a picture prop. The print was itty, bitty and giving me major eye strain and I've instead requested the audio from Overdrive. Now I must wait or get better glasses :)
I went on the hunt for a book and found four sets of doubles in my stacks. Who needs B&N when I have my basement? Sooo embarrassing. There will no doubt be many more before I'm finished organizing. Here are the first two:
I also founds TONS of books that I was holding hostage and will be dropping off at my Little Free Library whenever the snow stops. Here's a pic of the last drop.
The only other exciting thing going on around here is the fact that I received my first Nocturnal Reader's Box and it is glorious. I'll do some sort of unboxing (after the fact) post. At some point . . .

I'm keeping it simple from here on out and am only linking this post up to Caffeinated Reviewer's Sunday Post. Link yourself up and make some new blogging friends!
Books Bought
Yikes, freebies will be the death of my Ipad!

What's Distracting Me?
Here's a bunch of good stuff I've found on cable/Netflix and in my DVD pile. All are recommended.
The Belko Experiment is a violent blood bath of a film. It's so horrible I couldn't tear my eyes away.
XX is a horror anthology film created by four women and all are told from the women's POV which was incredibly refreshing in a horror film. I was interested in if after hearing that one of Jack Ketchum's short stories "The Box" was included in it. I'm sure everyone will have their favorite stories but mine wasthe darkly comic "The Birthday Party". A beleaguered mom only wants the best party for her little girl and when the unimaginable happens she makes the best of it. This one cracked me. "The Box" is serious and sinister and not executed quite as well as it should've been. There's a dream sequence that comes across as "WTF" because of that. "Don't Fall" was a little meh and predictable but I have seen a lot of creature double features so it might just be me. "Her Only Living Son" was bone chilling and my second favorite.
Addicted is a tragic and bittersweet South Korean film about two brothers and the woman they both call wife. This isn't a horror film as I expected. For some unknown reason, I was thinking it was a vampire film. It's not that either. But it's haunting all the same.
Dead Set is a British tv series that merges Big Brother with the zombie apocalyse. It's fast paced, the characters are mostly a-holes and it's terribly vicious.
What's Next?
I'm so bad at this. I am winging it this year but my best guess is probably one of these, one of the remaining Netgalley titles and one of my many freebies because my Ipad is seriously ready to blow up.
So, what have you all been up to?!
I love horror and thrillers! So lots of these look amazing! I have a freebie problem myself. =) Lots of great books! I hope you enjoy them all!
ReplyDeleteI grab a few from your bunch.
Mary my #SundayRoundup
I hope you were able to find a few that looked good and were still free! Thanks for visiting :)
DeleteI watched The Belko Experiment last month. I agree, it was bloody and I couldn't look away.
ReplyDeleteDamn that movie! It was so mean. Fit my current mood though :)
DeleteI am a big thriller and horror movie person and love to read them too. You got so many great books too, I hope you enjoy them.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Jenea! It's always great to meet a fellow horror fan :)
DeleteI'm so sorry about 80 Day. :( Going easy on your back sounds like a wise decision!
ReplyDeleteYeah, I'm really sad about it. I hope it goes well for you. My back just can't take it :( It's a great program but it is intense!
DeleteI'm curious about reading more of Scalzi's stuff. And Pinborough too. The Nocturnal Readers Box looks awesome! Curious to see what's in there... :)
ReplyDeleteDead set... hmm.
Cool cover on Widow's Point...
I did get my act together long enough to snap a few shots of the NRB while the sun was still shining. Now I just have to compose a post :)
DeleteI'm excited for the Nocturnal Box unboxing! I love subscription boxes but I'm getting two right now and I need to cancel one, it's too expensive:-)
ReplyDeleteThey are so much fun but you're right, so expensive!
DeleteSo many freebies. I need to stay far away from them. Have a great week and enjoy your new books!
ReplyDeleteI know, it's a problem! I'll never read them all but I can't stop grabbing . . .
DeleteI think we all have a problem with freebies, but I can't help myself either.
ReplyDeletesherry @ fundinmental Sunday Memes
It's ridiculous how quickly I accumulate them but it's good to choices, right?!
DeleteOh no, it definitely sounds like that 80 Day Obsession is not for you. Can't wait to see your unboxing, it looks like a fun box! And I loved Lovesick Gods, so I'm excited to see you grabbed that one!
ReplyDeleteNope, not for me. I'm too broken for something so rigorous. I just didn't want to admit it but now I have to admit it :( I'm so embarrassed by all those freebies I grabbed. You don't realize how many you've downloaded until you list them out!
DeleteTrapped was a really good read-my dad and I both liked that one.
ReplyDeleteYay, I'll have to move it to the top!
Deletehaha i know what you mean! I had to get all you freebies here! I Thanks for sharing them! and 'll like to see that basement of yours!
ReplyDeleteSorry to hear about your my back! I usually only do yoga and low-impact too! Hope you get back on track soon! :)
Thanks, Daniela. I am finally feeling human again! Trust me you don't want to see my basement. It is a disaster! We're working on getting it organized but it's a losing battle ;)
DeleteFreebies are addictive but hey, at least they are free. I just checked out a library book on stretching called something along the lines of "you can do a spit in 4 weeks." It's new and hey, I like stretching so I think I'm going to try it starting next week. We'll see if they can deliver on their promises. I remember watch "XX" a long time ago and yes, that birthday party one was rather weird, but I liked it. I remember thinking "The Box" wasn't that good. Maybe I'll check out the book.
ReplyDeleteHa, you will have to let me know how that split book works out! My daughter danced most of her life and lost her splits soon after her daily dance rehearsals came to an end.
DeleteFreebies will getcha! :) I won a Nocturnal Box and I am so excited and can't wait to get it as I never get boxes! :)
ReplyDeleteOh they got me, alright! Yay on the win!! That is an awesome prize.
DeleteOh ouch on the injuries. Hope yoga gets you back to feeling better.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Anna!
DeleteSorry about your back. That sucks. It is never your fault if you have doubles when the covers are different. I have bought the same book twice in a single shopping trip so keep that in mind. Have a great week!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Carole. Haha, I could see myself buying two copies of the same book on the same day as well. Those covers are tricky!
