Between Naps, March 2018 (1)

Between naps is a little recap of what we been up to recently on and outside of the blog.

What We've Been Up To

Whoops, I missed many weeks this time. I don't even know where to start now so I'll just jump in. I stopped with the madness that was 80 Day Obsession after injuring my back twice. I'm still sore both emotionally and physically. I started this program to make my body stronger but my body is not cooperating. I'm sticking with yoga and non-impact cardio. My latest plan is Beachbody's 3 Week Yoga Retreat. It's simple, easy and gentle and about the only thing my body can handle right now.

Remember my promise to read a book picked by all of you lovely readers for "My TBR List" ? Welp, I have failed. Now it's only good as a picture prop. The print was itty, bitty and giving me major eye strain and I've instead requested the audio from Overdrive. Now I must wait or get better glasses :)

I went on the hunt for a book and found four sets of doubles in my stacks. Who needs B&N when I have my basement? Sooo embarrassing. There will no doubt be many more before I'm finished organizing. Here are the first two:

I also founds TONS of books that I was holding hostage and will be dropping off at my Little Free Library whenever the snow stops. Here's a pic of the last drop.

The only other exciting thing going on around here is the fact that I received my first Nocturnal Reader's Box and it is glorious. I'll do some sort of unboxing (after the fact) post. At some point . . .

What's Distracting Me?

Here's a bunch of good stuff I've found on cable/Netflix and in my DVD pile. All are recommended.

The Belko Experiment is a violent blood bath of a film. It's so horrible I couldn't tear my eyes away.

XX is a horror anthology film created by four women and all are told from the women's POV which was incredibly refreshing in a horror film. I was interested in if after hearing that one of Jack Ketchum's short stories "The Box" was included in it. I'm sure everyone will have their favorite stories but mine wasthe darkly comic "The Birthday Party". A beleaguered mom only wants the best party for her little girl and when the unimaginable happens she makes the best of it. This one cracked me. "The Box" is serious and sinister and not executed quite as well as it should've been. There's a dream sequence that comes across as "WTF" because of that. "Don't Fall" was a little meh and predictable but I have seen a lot of creature double features so it might just be me. "Her Only Living Son" was bone chilling and my second favorite.

Addicted is a tragic and bittersweet South Korean film about two brothers and the woman they both call wife. This isn't a horror film as I expected. For some unknown reason, I was thinking it was a vampire film. It's not that either. But it's haunting all the same.

Dead Set is a British tv series that merges Big Brother with the zombie apocalyse. It's fast paced, the characters are mostly a-holes and it's terribly vicious.

What's Next?

I'm so bad at this. I am winging it this year but my best guess is probably one of these, one of the remaining Netgalley titles and one of my many freebies because my Ipad is seriously ready to blow up.

So, what have you all been up to?!

    1. Nope, not for me. I'm too broken for something so rigorous. I just didn't want to admit it but now I have to admit it :( I'm so embarrassed by all those freebies I grabbed. You don't realize how many you've downloaded until you list them out!

  12. Freebies are addictive but hey, at least they are free. I just checked out a library book on stretching called something along the lines of "you can do a spit in 4 weeks." It's new and hey, I like stretching so I think I'm going to try it starting next week. We'll see if they can deliver on their promises. I remember watch "XX" a long time ago and yes, that birthday party one was rather weird, but I liked it. I remember thinking "The Box" wasn't that good. Maybe I'll check out the book.

    1. Ha, you will have to let me know how that split book works out! My daughter danced most of her life and lost her splits soon after her daily dance rehearsals came to an end.

  15. Sorry about your back. That sucks. It is never your fault if you have doubles when the covers are different. I have bought the same book twice in a single shopping trip so keep that in mind. Have a great week!

    1. Thanks, Carole. Haha, I could see myself buying two copies of the same book on the same day as well. Those covers are tricky!
