Books from the Backlog: Kraken by M. Caspian

Carole @ Carole's Random Life In Books has created a fun new feature called Books from the Backlog to spotlight neglected and unloved books that have been sitting on your bookshelf for too long.

If you would like to join in, click the pic above to find out more.

My Neglected Book of the Week is Kraken by M. CaspianI bought this book in 2014 which isn't too long ago considering how I usually roll. Can you guess what this one might be about?!

The Goodreads Blurbage:

"Kraken: A gothic erotic horror with tentacle non-con.

When boyfriend Parker gives him an ultimatum Will never dreams his heart is about to be ripped out: move to a remote off-shore island with him, or call it quits. But Will picks wrong, and now he’s heading into the unknown to fix his mistake. But why do the locals think they recognise him? And why can’t he seem to leave?

Reader advisory: This work of fiction contains explicit sexual activities between men that may offend some people. It also contains scenes of rape, extreme violence, tentacles, and reference to sexual abuse of children.

Why did I add this book to my tbr pile? Yikes, after reading that blurb I am very worried for my sanity. Why DID I buy this?! I don't think I read the advisory and everyone seemed to be carrying on about it being such a great "dark romance" so of course I had to have it because I am a sucker like that. Now I'm a bit afraid of it. That last line is very worrying. But I paid for it so I suppose I'll give it a go.

I'm also still tempted because author Eli Easton whose book I just enjoyed, wrote this in her review: "This story reminded me of The Wicker Man, which I love. An unsuspecting guy visits an island and gets caught up in a web that he doesn't understand and can't escape. There's a shifter in the story, but its more of an ancient, inhuman creature who can take on the shape of a man. And, obviously, there are tentacles.

. . . In sum: If you have any stomach for horror, you may well enjoy this. Happy harpooning!"

I am so torn!

  1. I'd be okay until I saw Child Abuse.....at least it didn't mention animal abuse?

    1. Yeah, that's the one that got to me. Hopefully it's just a flashback to the past and not graphic. And true, at least there's no animal abuse mentioned.

  2. Tentacles? The only thing that concerned me was the warning to references of child abuse, but I am assuming one of the men was abused as a child. This does sound interesting..lol

  3. Please tell me there's a romance between a human and a Kraken. Lol.

  4. I remember when this one first came out and my curiosity rose since it was a horror involving a Kraken. I don't think I read that warning at the time. Whew, yeah, maybe the child abuse is a past thing.

    1. That warning may have been added at a later date because I don't think I would've purchased it had I seen it. Let's hope for the best . . .

  6. I have a few books in my collection that make me wonder what the heck I was thinking when I bought them. This one sounds good but I would be nervous about the sexual abuse of children. I look forward to your thoughts on it when you do get the chance to read it. Thanks for joining in this week!
