Review: Ensnared by Tiffany Roberts

This wasn't exactly what I thought it was going to be and I'm actually happy about it.

Sci-Fi Romance  |  Goodreads  |  Amazon

Ketahn did not want a mate. Fate has a different plan for him. When the queen he despises declares her intention to claim him, he retreats into the jungle.

What he finds there changes his world.

Small, delicate, and pale skinned, Ivy Foster is nothing like the females Ketahn has known. She’s not of his kind at all. Yet the moment he sees her, he knows the truth in his soul—she is his heartsthread.

And now that he has her, he won’t let anything take her away. Not the jungle, not the gods, not the queen.

Whether Ivy agrees or not, their webs are entangled. No one will ever sever those threads.

My 2 Cents For Free!

This was such an adorably sweet slow-burn romance. I was honestly quite surprised because, well, feast your eyes upon that wild cover. I assumed it going to be something along the lines of Creamed by Cave Creatures (hey, I like what I like) but it turned out to be a fully fleshed-out romance that was tender and only got spicy towards the last 80%. It even had all kinds of worldbuilding and a story arc that apparently fills three books. Who knew?

The book starts out from Ketahn’s POV and I think that was a very wise choice because we instantly see the world through his 8 or so eyes. On his planet the female of the species is in charge, they’re physically larger and it seems as if they’re all warriors for the queen (but I can’t be certain of this because we didn’t meet a ton of them in this story). The men are smaller and typically fall in line - doing whatever the queen asks of them. Except for Ketahn. Because of the queen and her never-ending warmongering ways, he’s lost most of his family and he despises her. Unfortunately for him, this trait is attractive to the queen and she will do everything in her power to force him into becoming her mate. He’s left his fellow spider-people and lives tucked away in the jungle in order to avoid her lustful advances but he’s unable to completely avoid her and it sucks to be him. One day he stumbles into a crater in the earth made by a ship that was headed to another planet to colonize it and he finds himself a soft-skinned creature inside and this is how he describes its lips. “The pink flesh around the creature’s mouth was full and plump, like a pair of juicy larvae laid together.” hahaha

Anyhow, he takes Ivy to his home because she clearly can’t survive on her own and this begins their relationship. She starts out as a “pet” but he soon learns she’s intelligent and they slowly try to communicate and eventually develop strange and confusing feelings. It’s wholesome and delightful until it isn’t, lol. I think I’ve told you enough so I’m shutting up about the plot now. . .

I loved almost everything about this story. Who would’ve thought a hard-shelled alien spider creature would’ve had so many kind hearts beating away in there? The only complaint (yep, I always have one) is that it drags in places. Especially when Ketahn is forced to visit the queen. It sometimes goes on and on. I wanted him to get in, drop off his offering and get out but you can’t always get what you want.

This is much more than a monsterporn story but in the end, it is also that too and I’m not complaining. Should you read it? Only you can answer that.

It does end on a cliffhanger so you’ll probably have to read all three of them just like I’m going to do. You have been warned.

  4. I like spiders and monster type romance, I mean I read shifter romance so yeah. A spider creature romance is not something I've read so this sounds great. I don't like the cliffhanger aspect but knowing that I could buy all the books.
